Self-taught illustrator, painter, graphic and product designer, Taka Hayashi was born in Yokohama, Japan and moved to Sana Monica, CA with his family when he was 9 years-old. Taka grew up in a defining era and locale in skate history and was influenced by the skate culture in the area. He began drawing at a very early age and spent most of his time either skating or experimenting with art. Some of his projects have been for Union LA, LAMF, Stussy and Vans Syndicate.

The story of Onitsuka Tiger is a story of inspiration – and that includes the California ’78.

The video tells the tongue-in-cheek story of our fictional hero Hiroshi and his crazy day in California during which he inadvertently invents some of the other great Eastern exports to the Western World.
